Fintec Wins Queen’s Award for Export Achievement
Fintec Crushing and Screening Ltd has crowned an extraordinary 12 months in its history by winning a coveted Queen’s Award for Export Achievement. The Northern Ireland-based manufacturer, which became part of the Sandvik Group of Companies in 2007, has previously won the 2006 International Trade Award and captured the Northern Ireland Exporter of the Year award two years in a row in 2006 and 2007.
Fintec Crushing and Screening Ltd, part of the Sandvik Group of Companies, has won the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement. The award is designed to reward “a substantial and sustained increase in export earnings to a level which is outstanding for the products or services concerned and for the size of the applicant's operations”.
Fintec manufactures track-mounted mobile crushing and screening equipment for the demolition, recycling and extractive industries, and is an established leader in its field, its products in demand around the world. Backed by the support of highly experienced local dealers, Fintec has earned a loyal following from customers as far afield as India, Australia, Latin America, Japan and South Africa as well as Russia and Central Europe. This brand loyalty led to the company winning a coveted International Trade Award and the Northern Ireland Exporter of the Year award in 2006, retaining the latter award the following year.
History of Growth
Fintec Crushing and Screening Ltd operates from a 12,000 m2 state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Ballygawley, Northern Ireland that was opened in June 2001, and from an 18,000 m2 warehouse facility that was opened in March 2006. The company employs over 350 people, a figure that is expected to rise to more than 400 during 2008 to match current demand levels.
In May 2007, the company was acquired by Sandvik which bought Extec Crushing and Screening Ltd at the same time. These strategic acquisitions helped propel Sandvik into the number three position in the global screening and crushing mobile market that is worth in excess of €2b annually. Since that acquisition, Fintec has continued to innovate, adding the critically-acclaimed 1440 track mounted impact crusher to its product line at the ConExpo exhibition in Las Vegas earlier this year. This new model combines Fintec’s experience in the design of mobile crushers with Sandvik’s unquestionable leadership in the manufacture of high output impact crushers and marks a major milestone in the company’s product development.
“Under the guidance of former managing director, and current sales and marketing director Hubert Watson, Fintec Crushing and Screening Ltd has developed a formidable range of products that are recognised as the best in their field around the world. This award is recognition of the hard work of everyone at the company and of the strong partnership we have formed with our suppliers both locally and internationally,” says group marketing manager Roger Murrow. “Thanks to the efforts of the design and engineering teams at Ballygawley and those of our dealers and distributors around the world, there is an unprecedented global demand for Fintec’s crushing and screening equipment, a fact that has been recognised by the Department of Trade & Industry with this Queen’s Award.”
Fintec will formally receive the Queen’s Award during a ceremony at the company’s Ballygawley facility later in the year.
“FINTEC SCOOPS EXPORTER OF THE YEAR FOR THE SECOND TIME RUNNING”

Major new export regions include India, Australia, Latin America, Japan and South Africa as well as Russia and Central Europe. Fintec’s range of products include six models of track-mounted crushing and screening plants, covering aggregates production, construction and demolition.

Fintec has once again increased its turnover by over 50% during the current year. They now have a workforce of over 350 employees and this is due to increase to over 400 in the next coming year, thus creating excellent job opportunities within this sector.
In May this year, Sandvik, who owned 49% of the shares in Fintec since it was established in 2002 bought out the remaining 51% of the shares. They also bought out Extec Crushing and Screening. Together Fintec and Extec help to propel Sandvik into number 3 position in the global screening and crushing mobile market that is worth in excess of €2b annually.

Sandvik Acquires 100% Shareholding in Fintec
Fintec are pleased to confirm the news that dominated the Bauma show, namely that Sandvik had acquired both Fintec and Extec screening and crushing. Together Fintec and Extec help to propel Sandvik into number 2 position in the global screening and crushing mobile market that is worth €2b annually.
The management teams of both Fintec and Extec have vast knowledge of this industry and both companies also possess the most modern manufacturing facilities in the UK. Fintec and Extec will continue to manage their businesses as normal until such times as the new Sandvik management team properly assess the strengths and weaknesses of both companies. The completion of the two acquisitions should happen during quarter 2. This level of independence was most clearly demonstrated at Bauma where both companies received many orders from Germany,Belarus,Ukraine,CIS, and indeed most parts of the world.

Fintec Wins Exporter of The Year Award
Fintec has won Invest Northern Ireland’s highest accolade: The Exporter of The Year Award. During the last four years, Fintec has become a substantial supplier of high quality, competitively priced range of mobile crushers and screens and are well established in the global market. Fintec has successfully brought four new products to market from 2003 to 2005 and recently launched it’s fifth new product, namely a mobile cone crushing fleet for secondary and final aggregates. Organic growth has averaged 60%+ annually and indeed in 2006 will exceed 80%+. Similarly employment has grown from humble beginnings to now in excess of 280 employees and manufacturing capacity was extended by a further 55,000 square feet this year to meet the growing demand.
Our strategy has always been to become a solutions provider for customers, but to achieve this takes many years in a start up situation, as it requires massive investment in R&D to bring new products to market. Traditionally, Northern Ireland is a specialist mobile screening provider, but has always lacked mobile crushing expertise. Fintec set out to be different from all the others and set up a joint venture with Sandvik from Sweden, who have over 100 years expertise in crushing. We have achieved major success through recruiting a strong global dealer network, some of whom were already representing Sandvik. In addition to this, we have secured the services of key independent dealers who have many years experience in our segment. In the emerging markets such as Africa, India, China, Japan and Russia we have relied very heavily on Sandvik, who have been established in these markets for many years.
Today, Fintec are already established as a global provider with an estimated 4% market share and a targeted growth of 10% market share in the next five years.
